HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 17
(By Delegates Pino, Louisos and Petersen)
Commemorating the passing of the Honorable William Hobart Booth,
Jr., former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates
from Fayette County, respected serviceman and public
servant.
Whereas, The Honorable William Hobart Booth, Jr., was born
April 17, 1920, at Williamson, Mingo County, West Virginia, the
son of Hobart and Alice (Salmons); and
Whereas, The Honorable William Hobart Booth, Jr., was
married to Sarah Kerby in 1943, with whom he shared the joy of
having seven children -- Hobart III, Phillip Kerby, Frances
Marion, James Rodney, Cynthia Lynn, Carol Ann and Thomas
Christopher; and
Whereas, The Honorable William Hobart Booth, Jr., was
educated at Concord College and West Virginia Institute of
Technology; and
Whereas, The Honorable William Hobart Booth, Jr., was
elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates from Fayette
County in 1950 and reelected in 1952, 1954, 1956 and 1958; and
Whereas, The Honorable William Hobart Booth, Jr., devoted
much time and energy to the promotion and development of outdoor
recreational facilities, which will be for the enjoyment of his
fellow West Virginians for years to come; and
Whereas, The Honorable William Hobart Booth, Jr., was aProtestant; member of the Moose, Veterans of Foreign War,
American Legion Post No. 49, Fayette County Zoning Commission,
Oak Hill High School Hall of Fame and 50th Year Reunion
Committee; served as an aviator three and one-half years during
World War II; recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross;
retired Major, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve; retired state manager
for Joseph Seagrams and Sons; and
Whereas, The Honorable William Hobart Booth, Jr., died at
Memorial Division, Charleston Area Medical Center, on January 13,
1993; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the House of Delegates hereby expresses its sincere
sadness at the passing of the Honorable William Hobart Booth,
Jr., former member of the House of Delegates; and, be it
Further Resolved,
That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the
wife and children of the late William Hobart Booth, Jr."
